(MIAMI, March 14, 2008)– The community is invited to join Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez and members of the Board of County Commissioners on Friday, March 28, at 10:30 a.m. for a ribbon-cutting ceremony inaugurating the Sunset Branch Library at 10855 SW 72 Street, in the Sunset Strip Plaza Shopping Center.
The new 2,950 square foot facility gives patrons access to a collection of more than 19,000 materials including books, DVDs, CDs and audio books. Eight computer terminals and six laptops are available, as well as free Internet access in a Wi-Fi environment. Two self-checkout units give patrons the option of checking out their own materials.
Operating hours are Monday, Thursday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. The branch is closed on Friday and Sunday.
The Sunset branch is the 10th library to open in a shopping center since 2001, and the 43rd in the Miami-Dade Public Library System. Four additional libraries are in the final stages of construction and will open later this year in the areas of Coconut Grove’s Virrick Park, International Mall, Kendale Lakes and Pinecrest.
In 2009 the library plans to open three more branches in the areas of Naranja, Palmetto Bay and Little Havana - home to the new Hispanic Branch. A groundbreaking ceremony is also scheduled for the Arcola Lakes Branch in Northwest Miami.
